Oro-Medonte Minor Soccer

On behalf of the Executive and Board of Oro-Medonte Minor Soccer (OMMS), I welcome all to the new season.

On behalf of the Executive and Board of Oro-Medonte Minor Soccer (OMMS), I welcome all to the new season.

This year promises to be an exciting season, in keeping with the solid work and successes of the many previous ones.

OMMS is affiliated with the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) through the Huronia District Soccer Association (HDSA).

At OMMS, we strive to support these Objectives:
1) To promote, foster and develop the game of soccer for both males and females of the youth recreational level in the Township of Oro-Medonte.
2) To build self esteem in the children of our community by developing athletic skills and sportsmanship through fun and friendly competition.

You will notice that these Objectives are silent on the topic of intense competition. While I am sure that there are leagues in the surrounding proximity that offer similarly interested families an intensely competitive environment - that is not the goal of OMMS. We strive provide a minimal stress introduction to team fun for kids.

OMMS is built on solid history of hundreds of kids playing soccer one night a week in the summer, assisted by coaches who are parents. Almost without exception, the volunteers that facilitate the existence of OMMS are parents who get off their couch and help their kids and others. Nothing happens without their help and sacrifice. Their rewards are few, but can be intensely satisfying. The Board is also comprised of volunteers who have stood up with the sole enticement of working huge hours for no pay. As President, I have a unique insight into the level of commitment that these people have and the sacrifice they offer. Any criticism of OMMS rests solely with the President, and will not be levelled to any other volunteer. Talk to me if something displeases you, and I will be happy to either address it or refund your registration.

As a volunteer organization, we are continually looking for more volunteers to either lessen the work by spreading it around, or to replace people who are moving onto other things. Each season is a challenge in finding enough volunteers, to the point where the survival of the league is a discussion point at each AGM (Annual General Meeting).

I want to take this opportunity to thank the people who make OMMS a reality. These people are parents who support their children by watching, the parent volunteers who help, and the students who volunteer through school programs.

We have enhanced the offerings over the past few years and include food and drink, photographs, a free barbeque season ender, on-site First Aid, etc.

Expenses go up every year and we work diligently in providing services for a minimal cost that I believe may be one of the lowest around. This would not be possible without the unfailing support of The Township of Oro-Medonte. In common pursuit of providing recreational activities for township residents, they grant us excellent relationship based interaction and culminate with assistance in securing unparalleled facilities.

Our long-term venue is Burl’s Creek Event Park on Highway #11 N/B @ Line #8 and our gracious hosts are Don and Linda Haney.

No team that plays in OMMS exists without a sponsor. These sponsors provide financial support for the uniforms that are gifted to the athletes. As often as not, the sponsor is also standing watching their child play.

Enjoy the season! Have fun!
