Evacuation and Lost Child Safety Procedures

Purpose

To outline evacuation & lost child procedures in case of an unexpected emergency requiring immediate evacuation of the soccer field, before or during soccer play and to outline lost child safety procedures.

Tools  Available to Use for Safety Purposes

·         Air horns

·         Walkie talkies

·         Megaphone

·         Front Gate

All walkie talkies must be distributed amongst the board at each and every game. The airhorns must be checked, filled and ready for use and megaphone must be within reach.

EVACUATION PROCEDURE

If any member of the board believes there is just cause for an evacuation, all board members will be called to the front with use of the walkies to discuss the situation and make a decision.

Should the decision be made to evacuate the soccer field for any reason, or in the event that there is immediate danger and the board cannot be called to the front, the following procedure must be followed:

1.      megaphone siren should be sounded to indicate evacuation has been initiated

2.      the board member(s) closest to D & E fields will usher everyone off those fields with a sense of urgency

3.      Other board members should divide up as follows:

·         One stays at the designated waiting place for any lost children or separated families and notifies the Pizza outlet that evacuation is in place and they must shut down and stop serving immediately

·         At least one member each supervises evacuation of remaining fields by notifying coaches in a calm manner , all nets to be left on the field (they will be dealt with later when it is safe to do so)

·         One member supervises the cars leaving the parking lot making sure the lot is empty, absolutely ZERO tolerance for people chatting and waiting for food, they must leave immediately

·         Once parking lots are emptied, one member remains at the gate to close and lock it

It should be noted that it is every parent’s responsibility to know the whereabouts of their children and to ensure their child’s safety while at the field. It is strongly recommended that the family assign a responsible person to their children’s fields if they themselves, cannot be present. If a parent does not do this, it is at their own risk. At no time, is a parent/guardian to leave Burl’s Creek Family Event Park while their child is playing soccer.   Every child MUST be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for that child. If a child is left unaccompanied with no adult in the park, proper authorities will be notified. Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance. If a child is found with no responsible guardian at the field in the event of an emergency evacuation, OMMS reserves the right to have an OMMS board member remove that child from the field to get to a safe location outside the park if necessary. The OPP Rose St. detachment in Barrie will be notified as soon as possible of the child’s location and parents should contact them at 705-726-6484.

LOST CHILD PROCEDURE

Should a child be separated from their family during an evacuation procedure or otherwise, the following procedure will be followed.

Precautions taken by OMMS:

OMMS will two have a board members stationed at the table for the whole game every game and will be easily identifiable. All board members will have a walkie talkie for communication.

OMMS has a designated “Lost Child” spot, currently identified as the Pizza outlet.

Procedures:

If the lost child is not immediately located at the designated spot, then all board members and volunteers will be notified by walkie talkie and will split up to the various fields looking for the child.

The soccer field will go into lockdown mode, at least one board member will go to the front gate and monitor the entrance/exit. If the child is not located within 30 minutes, the police will be notified.

If a board member finds a lost child, that child will be taken to the designated lost child spot and other board members notified by walkie talkie to notify parents.

*it should be noted that any unaccompanied child not obviously ordering pizza but standing in that area will be approached by an OMMS board member to ensure that child is not lost.

Inclement Weather Information

We play rain or shine, as make up dates are not possible due to the Burl’s Creek Event schedule. As weather varies widely in Oro-Medonte, we will not call the game until we get to the field.

In the event that stormy weather should arise after you have arrived at the field, you will hear a horn. When the horn sounds you are required to evacuate the field immediately.

We do our best to ensure everyone’s safety, but we also recognize that everyone has individual needs or limits. We will play in the rain/cold and hot/humid. In the end, you know your child best and it is your responsibility to make sure they are prepared for the weather conditions. At no time should any coach, parent or player play soccer if they feel it is unsafe for them to do so. The decision as to whether you or your child plays or not, is left up to you.
